Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service has become the first Fire and Rescue Service to receive level 5 of the Green Dragon Environmental Standard – the Welsh Government’s highest Environmental award across the entire organisation.

Green Dragon recognises the Service’s commitment to environmental matters and has provided valuable assistance in enabling the Service to meet its sustainability targets.

The Standard comprises five levels, with each level designed to be a stand-alone system. As the level increases from one to five, so does the level of complexity.

The assessment took place over three days and included a number of site visits to various fire stations

Chief Fire Officer Paul Bates said, “I am absolutely delighted that the Service’s green strategies have been recognised in this way. We’ve had a strong commitment for many years to improve the way we do business and deliver services in a sustainable manner”.

“The standard looks at every aspect of the way the Service operates – from dealing with emergencies to making purchases for every day essentials, so it is extremely pleasing to have reached this standard across the board.”

Assistant Chief Fire Officer and Sustainability Director Champion, Chris Davies said,

“This recognition is the culmination of five years work within the Service. We are very proud to be recognised for our high standard of commitment and I congratulate everyone who has been involved.”
