Dyfed Powys Police fully support the National Stalking Awareness Day on 24th April 2014.

This year’s campaign – “Working Without Fear” – aims to eliminate workplace stalking and provide information to employers about how they can support employees who disclose stalking behavior.

The role of employers is key in identifying and tackling stalking and has been recognized in the Welsh Assembly Governments 10,000 Safer lives strategy to eliminate all Violence Against Women.

Investigations relating to stalking can be linked to some of the most serious crimes that the police deal with including murder, sexual offences and domestic abuse. The impact of harassment on victims, families and communities can be devastating.

Detective Inspector Neil Jenkins said

“Anyone who has ever been stalked and/or suffered harassment knows the devastating effect it has upon feelings of safety, self confidence and self esteem. Research shows that stalking not only affects the victim but also people connected to the victim.

Stalking is against the Law in the UK. The police can take action if you are being stalked- there does not have to be any direct threats of violence to have happened before they are able to do anything.

It is important for everyone to be aware of how they can ensure their own personal safety, and this issue may be of particular concern to you if you are being harassed or stalked.

Nobody has the right to harass you or stalk you and the Police and courts can take action against anyone who is doing such a thing. Don’t suffer in silence – Report it.”
