Llanelli Music Scene Bank Holiday Bash at the Kazbar 20th April 2014

Llanelli Music Scene joined the Kazbar Rock Club for a night of Music on Bank holiday Sunday. Here’s  Barry Bungalow’s review of the night ….

Black Dawn – were the only band to play on this night, and  the 5 piece were incredible.   The band opened their  set   with their dark rock sound that flowed into groove metal  that was rather reminiscent of Alice Cooper, while also performing some iconic hard rock as well as heavy metal covers , bringing passers by into the venue,  for a sing song and a drink.

A fantastic use of the guitar, from the guitarist  who never missed a note, even during a rendition of Iron Maiden’s – Fear Of The Dark. The backing  to the  songs was exceptional with the bass player who played outstandingly, and the drummer who was phenomenal. The keyboardist added that little bit more of an atmosphere to the room and an already enthusiastic crowd … and of course the vocalist, with his ring master style attire, had enough stage presence in himself, to sell the entire evening to the crowd.

The band even changed up a little, with the keyboardist and the vocalist switching places a couple of songs  in to play an amazing cover of Metallica’s – For Whom The Bells Tolls, then switching back and playing one song before they took a slight break in their set.

The second half of  Black Dawn’s set started off with an impressive piece that had more of a Ronnie James Dio feel to the song, restarting the set with incredible energy and drawing the crowd back towards the stage almost instantaneously. Black Dawn’s set just got better as the next song they played was an impressive rendition of Deep Purple’s – Smoke On The Water, in which the singer showed the complete range of his vocal ability. The next few songs were played as if they hadn’t left the stage, continuing the incredible stage presence that they had shown during the first half of the set. They even played genuine fan favourites during this half of the set including  a brilliant version of Black Sabbath’s – Paranoid and an equally epic cover of AC/DC’s  – Whole Lot Of Rosie, both of which got the crowd bouncing.  The band  finished off the night with an awesomely impressive version of Bon Jovi’s – You Give Love A Bad Name. Black Dawn  did not need an opening act as they were extremely impressive on their own, not something that can be said about many bands.

The entire night was amazing, and with enough room to accommodate more of a crowd in our next couple of gigs, I can see the Kazbar becoming a regular venue for Llanelli’s Original Music Scene.

The next Music Scene Night takes Place at the Kilkenny Cat on Saturday 26th April and performing on this Band of the Month Night from 8pm will be the Kerosene Playground and Jackson’s Lane.
