Llanelli Music Scene’s Band of The Month Night for April took place in the Kilkenny Cat Llanelli in Saturday 26th April. Performing on the night were the acoustic four piece band Jackson’s Lane and The Kerosene Playground.
Here’s what Music Scene’s Barry Bungalow had to say about the night……
Jackson’s Lane – a completely different change of style to what is usually played at these Llanelli Music Scene events. The 4 piece acoustic band played some of their own music as well as some iconic covers including The Beatles – Hey Jude through to Oasis – Wonderwall, and even going as far as playing their own rendition of Blink 182 – I Miss You. Their acoustic style and choice of covers perfectly fits the Kilkenny Cat, and I could hear the crowd singing along to their set whilst they performed and this continued even when the band were packing away after their set. Jackson’s Lane were an excellent choice for an opening band, and it is pretty impressive that they performed so well as a group considering they have only been together since Dec 2013.
Headlining the Band of the Month Night were The Kerosene Playground – opening up their set with a great heavier cover version of Tina Turners Rolling On The River, this female fronted 5 piece band really got the crowd bouncing. Again, the band played some iconic cover songs and really got the crowd involved with a sing along. Songs included Joan Jett – I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll and The Cranberries – Zombie through to Blink 182 – All The Small Things and Green Day – Boulevard Of Broken Dreams. The band even played songs that they had kept especially for the night, covering Bob Dylan/Guns N Roses – Knocking On Heavens Door and Stevie Wonder’s – Very Superstitious, and even playing The Rembrandts – I’ll Be There For You when requested by the crowd to play an encore.
With great stage presence and an amazing sound The Kerosene Playground got some awesome crowd participation, getting the crowd to sing along to songs, and they proved why they are well worth the title of band of the month for April 2014.
