CONGRATULATIONS are being given to Myrddin Special Unit which has won a national competition for an £80,000 classroom.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board have all offered their good wishes to the school.
Leader Cllr Kevin Madge said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Myrddin won this competition, they are very deserving winners.
“Our thanks also go to all of those people who voted for them to make this possible.
“We look forward to visiting the children to see their new assistive technology centre once it is in place.
“Staff at the unit and in our education department worked hard to drum up support for the public vote which determined the winners, and we are delighted that so many people in Carmarthenshire made the effort to vote for Myrddin School.
“They are a really special school in more ways than one and deserve not only the prize, but also the national recognition which comes from winning this prestigious competition.”
Myrddin Special Needs and Autism Unit was selected from almost 400 schools that entered the competition run by education magazine Times Educational Supplement (TES).
It battled it out against five other shortlisted schools in a public vote to win the Clearspace Education classroom.
The competition was open to all primary and secondary schools in the UK. The panel of five judges was impressed with Myrddin’s plan to create an Assistive Technology Centre which would provide life-changing technology for their students with severe learning difficulties.
