All eyes will be on Wales in just 24 hours’ time as the Glasgow 2014 Queen’s Baton Relay finally touches down on Welsh soil.

Having started its epic journey across 70 nations and territories on 9 October 2013, the baton will spend the next seven days exploring some of Wales’ most iconic landmarks and taking part in a jam-packed schedule of events.

From the summit of Snowdon to the coastal scenery of St David’s Peninsula, and from sporting events to cultural activities the relay will showcase what Wales and the Welsh public have to offer.

Carmarthenshire plays host to the Baton for the day on Tuesday May 27 when it tour Laugharne, Carmarthen Leisure Centre, Ammanford and Llanelli Towns before a farewell ceremony in Carmarthen in the evening.

Organisers of the relay in Wales are keen to ensure that everyone makes the most of this opportunity to be part of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games;

“When the baton arrives in Wales there will be only 60 days to go until the start of Glasgow 2014 and having the curtain-raiser to the Games on our doorstep provides everyone with the chance to feel a part of it,” said Chris Jenkins, the CEO of Commonwealth Games Wales.

“There will be a team of over 200 athletes set to represent us on the world stage on the 23rd July, some of whom are coming out to meet the Welsh public during the relay, and to witness a wave of support from the nation for Team Wales over the next seven days will no doubt act as a great inspiration for them.”
