Trudi Goldsmith caught up with Jason Clay  of The Ride to ask  him about the band and their recent EP release .

For those who don’t know who The Ride are can you tell us?

The Ride consists of 3 members; Jason Clay on guitar and vocals, Mike Mursell on bass and Nick Davies on drums.

How long have the band been together ?

The band got together early in 2013 and we have just reached our first year of live gigs!

How would you describe you music ?

As a band we tend to enjoy upbeat music. Music which will put you in a feel good mood, whether it gets you singing, dancing, or just a buzz from the energy. Stylistically speaking our music is quite varied. We are primarily a rock/ pop band, but some funky influences have been known to slip in.

You recently recorded and released an EP can you tell us about this ?

On the 23rd of May 2014 we celebrated the launch of our self titled EP ‘The Ride’. The EP consists of five tracks; Gypsy, Want To Be Me, The Promised Land, Breathing the Bass and Walk a Mile. Since its release, we have been struck not only by the extremely positive response from the listeners, but how every song is somebody’s favourite. As we were writing and recording the EP, we felt certainly felt that each track was strong, but we assumed that the public would warm to one or two particular songs over the rest, but that hasn’t happened. All five tracks seem to have gone down really well and we are very pleased over all.

Do you have any personal favourite tracks on the EP ?

It’s definitely tough to pick a winner. Gypsy was our first original track, so that will always be special to us, lyrically, we like Walk A Mile, but I think overall The Promised Land is our favourite. The song itself depicts a man’s journey towards the discovery of the fabled ‘promised land’. It represents hard work, patience which then leads to achievement. It is a song which almost everyone can relate to in someway or another. As well as that, its musically one of our more complex songs so we enjoy that aspect of it as well.

Where can people listen to and buy your EP ?

If you’re unfortunate enough to know the band members personally then you can buy a CD from us directly. Soon we are hoping to get them onto iTunes, however in the meantime you can listen to the EP on our sound cloud page: https://soundcloud.com/the-ride-uk/sets/the-ride-e-p

What plans do the band have for the rest of 2014?

This year we simply want to accelerate and grow at the same rate we have done in our first year. We will send the EP everywhere, make our very own music video and of course keep writing!

The support of our friends and family never ceases to amaze us and we would like to thank everyone who made our first year so successful. We recorded the EP at Op:eC Studios with Jon Constantine, who put everything he could into making the EP sound as good as it possibly could be, so thank you very much to Jon.
