Carmarthenshire families are being encouraged to switch off the TV and laptop and sit down with their children and share a story instead for National BookStart Week.
From Monday, June 9, until Sunday, June 15, Carmarthenshire Libraries will be holding free events around the country for babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and their families.
The theme for this year is ‘My Hero’ and will recognise all the heroes in a child’s life, from superheroes and story characters, to parents, teachers and more.
The Carmarthenshire Libraries team are holding events at the following dates and locations:
- Tuesday, June 10 at Llanelli Library from 2.15 – 2.45pm
- Wednesday, June 11 at Carmarthen Library from 10.30 – 11.15am
- Friday, June 13 at Ammanford Library from 2.00- 2.45pm
Deputy Library Service Manager, Wendy Tiffin, said:”Reading with a child for just 15 minutes a day can ignite the spark of a child’s imagination and draw them into the amazing world of reading.”
Carmarthenshire’s Executive Board Member for libraries, Cllr Meryl Gravell, said:”There are many benefits of early years reading, whenever I look after my grandchildren I love to sit and read and I know that it makes a huge difference to their imagination”
