TWENTY thousand predcted to visit Pembrey Country Park over the weekend of the Welsh Game Fair could be a conservative estimate.

Twitter feeds and blogs of the hunting shooting and fishing fraternity have been buzzing with anticipation of the event on Saturday and Sunday June 14 and 15 suggesting the Welsh Game Fair was rediscovering its soul and roots at Pembrey.

The National Countrysports Newspaper, The Countryman’s Weekly, has described the Pembrey Country Park venue as “undeniably one of the most beautiful and scenic venues in the country.”

The park, one of Wales’s biggest visitor attractions, is likely to be the new permanent home of the Game Fair. The organisers say The Welsh Game Fair “is returning to its roots” at Pembrey. They have been knocked out by the opportunity with the wide open spaces redesigning many of their attractions on a sandy and forest fringed ground forgiving location they describe as one of the most beautiful in Wales.

A new clay pigeon layout has been designed taking advantage of the forest, open spaces and beach opportunities for the usual attractions associated with the Welshness of this countryside event.

Ferreting, fishing, falconry, airguns, catapults, archery and much more are involved.

There is a gun dog scurry running on both days with a good layout for the handlers and unsurpassed viewing opportunities for the spectators.

There is a new purpose built casting pool to enable angling demonstrations and competitions throughout the weekend.

There are more than 250 trade stands and the Welsh main ring runs continuously through the weekend with outstanding attractions to keep whole families enthralled.

Displays include Broke FMX and Freestyle Motorcross Team; The Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment’s Parachute Display Team-The Tiger’s, simulated coursing; falconry displays, sheepdog demonstrations, countryside skills, gundogs; parades of hounds and beagles. There are opportunities for visitors to view the entire spectacle and Cefn Sidan from a helicopter too.

For the country sports enthusiasts the Countryside Alliance Ring will play host to countryside activities with expert guidance and advice from practitioners from all over the country.
