AN animation project is providing young people with the opportunity to learn and develop new skills.

‘Mobi can animate’ is offered by Carmarthenshire’s Youth Service and Plant Dewi’s MOBI project.

It is provided through school drop-in sessions and evening youth provision aboard the MOBI vehicle, and it aims to help youngsters develop their creativity, skills and ideas through film making.

Six pupils from Ysgol Bro Dinefwr, Pantycelyn Campus created their short animation film entitled Phonewars, which was entered into the ZOOM Young Film Makers Awards 2014 under the category Best Animation in Age 14 – 19.

MOBI Youth Worker Huw Leonard said: “I’m thrilled with the recognition that the young people and this short film have received.

“The Zoom Award Ceremony was really special. The film was one of three films shortlisted and the young people and staff were invited to the prestigious awards ceremony held at the Sony Theatre at Bridgend College.

“It didn’t win but the achievement of being one of only three films nominated from across Wales is excellent recognition of the film the team created.

“Many congratulations to Celine Paul, Aimee Jones, Rebecca Davies, Daisy Hay, Katie Jane Greenhalgh, and Morgan Connolly from Ysgol Bro Dinefwr and to Huw Leonard and Ann Slater from Carmarthenshire Youth Service on producing an excellent film.

“All young people that participated received accreditation through Agored Cymru, and thoroughly enjoyed the high profile awards ceremony.”

MOBI provides community based youth work for young people aged 11 – 25 years, in the rural areas of Carmarthenshire.

A youth club on wheels, it offers a safe place for young people to hang out. Youth workers are on hand to facilitate a range of social activities and information workshops.

During the school holidays Mobi becomes a base for young people to get involved in community projects.
