Making Savings at Drefach Hall

Following a Zero Carbon Future hall energy survey commissioned last year, Drefach Welfare Association has made improvements to lower overheads. The survey was commissioned by the group to investigate what improvements could be carried out at Drefach Welfare Hall, following a hefty electricity bill.

The report identified the complete lack of wall and loft insulation in the hall that is used by the community for events such as coffee mornings, classes, fundraising events, cultural and heritage events.

The RDP Sir Gâr’s Zero Carbon Future (ZCF) project has now provided funding for the group to install celetex wall insulation and mineral wool loft insulation in the hall. This has the potential to reduce the hall’s heating costs by up to 50% and ensure that the facility becomes warmer and cosier for users.

Zero Carbon Future, part of the RDP Sir Gâr Innovative Hubs project, is funded through the Rural Development Plan (RDP) for Wales 2007-2013 which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. Focussing on the environment, ZCF aims to deliver innovative solutions and projects which tackle climate change by reducing our carbon footprint.

ZCF Officer Paul Thomas said: “The work funded will help the hall make savings and to be more environmentally and financially sustainable.”
