A group of people from Llanelli have learnt some life-saving skills thanks to a Carmarthenshire Communities First training course.

The paediatric first aid training was funded by Carmarthenshire Communities First and focused on helping students gain confidence in their own ability to react to an emergency.

During the course Communities First residents were taught what to do should a medical accident or emergency occur. The course was aimed at parents, childcarers, and family members, who would benefit from this vital knowledge.

The one day training session at Llanelli Library covered a wide range of topics on how to respond appropriately to burns, choking, bites, stings, the effects of extreme heat and cold, and febrile convulsions.

Communities First Family Learning Worker, Rhian Richards, said:” The aim of this course is to educate and qualify community members enabling them to strengthen their opportunities to access further training and employment.”

Communities First is a community focused programme that supports the Welsh Government’s Tackling Poverty programme. The programme supports the most disadvantaged people in the most deprived areas with the aim of helping alleviate persistent poverty.
