The Llanelli members of Plaid Cymru have selected their candidate for next year’s Westminster election.

The meeting held in the Glenalla Hall, Llanelli selected 32 year old Vaughan Williams as its candidate for next year’s election.

Plaid Cymru Westminster candidate Vaughan Williams said:

“I am delighted to be selected by local Llanelli members from a strong field of candidates. I know the area of South West Wales well having taught in Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryn Tawe. This truly is a special part of our nation. The people of Llanelli and the surrounding areas are the warmest people I have met.

I very much look forward to talking to the people of the constituency and discussing issues which affect their lives such as the bedroom tax, zero hour contracts and unemployment which is impacting upon the opportunities of young people across Wales.”

Mid and West AM Simon Thomas, the regional AM for the area added:

“I am pleased that Vaughan Williams is Llanelli’s champion for the Party of Wales at the next Westminster election. As a former MP I know he will have an important contribution to play alongside Jonathan Edwards MP and other Plaid Cymru MPs to stand up for our communities.”

“Plaid Cymru is the only mainstream party that is standing up against the culture of cuts and austerity from the London based parties. They are all the same, while we are different because we always put Wales first.

“The recent European results where Plaid Cymru came first in Carmarthenshire shows there is great potential here in Llanelli for the Party of Wales.”
