LEISURE centres across the county are glowing with vibrancy after having a bright new look.
Signage and display materials have gone up at Llanelli, Ammanford and Carmarthen centres in a bid to encourage people to get active.
Works are also underway at St Clears Leisure Centre after Carmarthenshire County Council successfully secured Section 106 funding for a new gym.
The move is part of a council leisure rebranding exercise Actif to get more people, more active, more often.
The council’s senior sports and leisure manager, Carl Daniels said: “There is a clear need to ensure that our facilities are an inviting, positive place to be so that people are encouraged to come in and get active. Whether children are getting active through swimming or raquet sports, adults wiggling their hips in Zumba classes or getting back to health after being referred to exercise by their doctor, the centres have everything you need to keep your body and mind fit and healthy.”
New online services have been introduced including Join at Home and booking classes and activities in advance to make it easier for people to access and link services.
Executive board member for Regeneration and Leisure, Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “We play a significant role in helping the population to be fit and healthy. Our recent rebranding to ‘Actif’ is part of raising that profile and encouraging more people to use our facilities. A new healthier lifestyle has so many benefits, not only on residents themselves, but also local health and wellbeing services.”
