Llanelli AM Keith Davies has welcomed the go ahead for a raft of improvements to help residents feel safer.
Following a recent visit by Carmarthenshire Council’s Head of Housing Robin Staines to aStation Road Forum meeting chaired by Keith Davies AM, residents in the 5 Tys off Station Road, Llanelli were given the opportunity last week to put their concerns directly to council officers from the Housing, Property Repairs and Environmental Enforcement departments.
Concerns were raised about security and as a result several improvements to fencing, CCTV and broken doors were agreed and will be implemented in the next few months.
The County Council also agreed to pay for the hire a local hall so that residents can hold meetings until the Hafan Complex refurbishment is complete.
Keith Davies AM said:
“I am pleased that the Station Road Forum has been able to help local residents get the security they need. The purpose of the forum is to bring together the community, residents, local organisations and businesses that represent the area.
“I am pleased to have been able to support residents who have been working together to make the area cleaner and safer in the last few years, we don’t want this spoilt by any fly tipping or other anti-social behaviour.”
Last week, Keith highlighted the introduction of a new licensing scheme by Carmarthenshire County Council which means that from July, privately rented properties in the Tyisha area of Llanelli will need to be registered.
In his question to the Local Government Minister, Keith Davies remarked:
“This builds upon the current scheme in place in the area on selected places rented out by the county. Does the Minister agree with me that this will reduce anti-social behaviour in the area and will secure community safety?”
In her response, Lesley Griffiths AM said:
Yes, I am sure that it will bring real benefits to the local community and will help to address anti-social behaviour. I know that this is something that my colleague, Carl Sargeant, the Minister for Housing and Regeneration, has also expressed a view on, and I am aware of the work being undertaken by the Station Road forum.
