The Scarlets today wish to pay their respect to former Llanelli captain, and Wales’ oldest international, scrum half Handel Greville.
Greville was born in Drefach on 13th September 1921 and turned out for several rugby clubs including Carmarthen Athletic RFC and Swansea RFC before joining Llanelli. Scrum half Greville went on to captain Llanelli during the 1948/49 season.
His one and only international cap for Wales came in 1947 as Wales won 6-0 against touring side New South Wales Waratahs.
After finishing his playing career, Greville became Chairman and the President of Llanelli Rugby Club and in 2008 was the oldest living captain to attend the final game parade at Stradey Park. Mr Greville remains the only gentleman to this day hold all three positions, secretary, Chairman and President, with Llanelli Rugby Football Club.
Mr Greville, 92, who remained a stalwart of Llanelli RFC Former Players Association despite ill-health, passed away on Friday evening at Prince Phillip Hospital, Llanelli.
The Scarlets wish to express their deepest sympathies to Mr Greville; the funeral will be held at his home town of Drefach, details to be confirmed.
