Plaid Cymru in Llanelli have given their full support to a judicial review taking place this week to look at the future provision of emergency services at Prince Philip Hospital.

Vaughan Williams, Plaid Llanelli Westminster candidate said:

“I fully support the pending judicial review and praise the efforts undertaken by campaigners who have worked extremely hard in getting to this point and for the case to be taken forward. I firmly believe that centralising life-saving services is wrong and it shouldn’t happen full stop. We must have a fully-fledged doctor-led A+E unit at Prince Philip Hospital. Llanelli residents must continue to have access to an Accident + Emergency service on their doorsteps.”

“Throughout this entire process, our Town has clearly deserved better, from a flawed consultation process to a 33,000 signature petition being ignored. The official model of care recommended and outlined by the Health Minister in the National Assembly remains ’emergency nurse practitioner led, supported by general practitioners’. This is completely unacceptable; I recognise the importance of patients having quick access in receiving treatment and especially within the golden hour. We must also all value the hard work being undertaken by staff on a daily basis who are dedicated to providing excellent care for patients at Prince Philip Hospital.”

“I believe there is far too much bureaucracy in our NHS, time which is spent on meeting targets and completing paperwork. Plaid Cymru has recently launched a consultation document which outlines our plans to recruit 1,000 extra doctors in the Welsh NHS, under our new proposals the focus will be firmly on meeting and addressing the needs of the patient. I am keen to hear people’s views on how we can strengthen and develop a positive vision locally and nationally for our NHS.”
