Round the world trip for Scarlets Season Ticket

One lucky Scarlets supporter received a special treat from the other side of the world this Father’s Day.

Llanelli and New Zealand are synonymous with rugby and the infamous 9-3 victory over the All Blacks and tales of “I was there” will live on in people’s memories for many years to come.

This Father’s Day was no different as Llanelli, New Zealand and rugby once again came together. Long-time Scarlets supporter John Griffiths, from Pwll, received a very special Scarlets gift from the Land of the Long White Cloud!

Mr Griffiths’ son Simon, who has emigrated to New Zealand, decided to surprise his father with a Carwyn James Season Ticket for the 2014-15 season at Parc y Scarlets.

Once a regular visitor to Stradey Park, Mr Griffiths junior seized the opportunity to present his father with a memorable gift this Father’s Day allowing him to support his beloved Scarlets and ignite the passion at their new home of Parc y Scarlets.

Simon Griffiths, living in New Zealand commented; “Dad was a regular attendee at Stradey Park but is yet to get back in to the habit of attending home fixtures on a regular basis at Parc y Scarlets.

“I was brought up in Loughor and represented Llanelli School Boys. We’re a proud rugby family and despite not being able to attend games with dad in Llanelli I’m delighted to be able to give him this opportunity and I know he’s really looking forward to the new season.”

Mr John Griffiths, who lives in Pwll said: “I was so surprised to receive the letter in the post, it was very thoughtful of Simon to go to the trouble of contacting the Scarlets all the way from New Zealand and surprise me with a Season Ticket!

“He’s a marvellous boy and I’m very proud of him. I used to attend regularly at Stradey Park but haven’t been many times since the team moved across to the other side of town due to ill health.

“I’m really looking forward to the new season and will hopefully see some good young players coming through.”
