BUS parties and disabled drivers arriving at Llanelli Leisure Centre have been blocked by inconsiderate motorists ignoring signage.

Now regulations are being pushed through to fine the inconsiderate motorists who have even been taking up Blue Badge spaces.

Published notices have led to a flurry of criticism on social media that Carmarthenshire Council proposes to charge for parking at the centre.

There are currently no plans to introduce parking charges at the centre.

Enforcement will be stepped up with the notices in place and inconsiderate drivers blocking areas marked for coaches and drivers will be fined.

Carmarthenshire executive board member for transport services Cllr Colin Evans said a parking regulation order had been made for the leisure centre car park to control the misuse of the coach parking bay and the disabled persons parking bays.

He said: “Drivers ignoring signage have been causing groups arriving by coach and disabled users considerable inconvenience. We have to take measures to fine those causing problems.

“The order is intended to ensure the orderly management of the car park, protect parking for Blue Badge holders attending the centre and allow buses to stop up safely in the car park.”

The number of disabled persons parking bays dedicated for blue badge holders is being increased from 6 to 15 spaces.
