New residence for otters

A new otter holt built by Simeon Jones, coastal conservation officer, and volunteers was finally finished recently in the Llanelli area.

The work took 5 months to complete due to high rainfall and water levels making it difficult to work on the site, which is well used by otters. By early May the water levels had fallen sufficiently for the final phase to begin.

Last December Mencap volunteers helped to cut back alder and willow around Sandy Water Park to open up the lake margins and improve emergent vegetation around the lake. The logs were then transported over to the holt site in January with the help of Mencap and Choose Life volunteers.
