NEUADD Cefneithin is Carmarthenshire’s Loveliest Locality – according to the judges of the competition for the county’s communities in the lead up to the National Eisteddfod.

The aim of the Carmarthenshire’s Loveliest Locality Competition was to encourage communities across the county to dress up their area ready to celebrate the arrival of the National Eisteddfod in the county.

It was a great achievement for the majority of appeal committees to reach and exceed their financial targets. Here, therefore, is an opportunity to celebrate the hard work and enthusiasm.

The aim of this competition was to ensure that Carmarthenshire gave a warm Welsh welcome to the National Eisteddfod.

The competition was judged on Monday July 28 when the Chair of the county council Cllr Daff Davies joined the iconic Welsh broadcaster Sulwyn Thomas and National Botanic Garden volunteer Jean Oliver on a tour of the county to discover the Loveliest Locality.

Y Neuadd, Cefneithin, was the unanimous choice of the judges to win the plaque, which was sponsored by the National Botanic Garden.

Sulwyn Thomas said on behalf of the judges: “Cefneithin was the choice of each one of us.

“They had used their imagination in decorating the Neuadd and the land around it.

“There was a sign welcoming the Eisteddfod and Eisteddfod-goers and making it clear what they were celebrating.”

He added that a number of other areas were well decorated and looked lovely but none were equal to Cefneithin.

The plaque was presented to the winners, Cefneithin and Foelcastell Welfare Association, at the National Eisteddfod today (Sunday 3rd August). The award was presented to Welfare Association representatives Linsey Perry and Catrina Williams by Judges Jean Oliver and Sulwyn Thomas.
