On Saturday 2nd August The Masons Arms played host to a music charity night in aid of Rhian’s Disney Dream.

The night was a huge success and opened with the debut of new band  ‘High Stakes‘ who were put together by some former members of Fatale Desire (The 2013 Llanelli Battle of the Band runners up.)  During their set High Stakes were joined on stage by Carl and ‘birthday boy’ Dan  who were dressed in 80’s glam style  and brandishing their ‘guitar hero’ guitars. The band played a short set to a well received crowd including  a ZZ Top cover; original tune ‘Midnight Beauty Queen’ and old favourite track ‘Fatal Desire.’

High Stakes don’t fail to entertain with their classic AC/DC rock sound. Its great to have this band back on the scene in their current form, here’s hoping that they carry on where Fatal Desire left off and continue to gig and build their fan base as ‘High Stakes’. Feedback from people at the venue was positive and include comments such as:

‘They were fab and I would defo come and watch them again’- Michelle Harries.

‘Amazing, I would defo see them again and the band members were fit’ – Claire Ware

Headlining the night Flucksation with the Rock of Ages show played some nineteen classic cover tunes to a packed out Masons Arms. Tracks included Duran Duran’s A View to a Kill and Bon Jovi’s You Give Love a Bad Name. The band were even joined on stage by birthday girl  Josie Williams who did a great job guest vocalling on some tracks including Def Leppard’s Pour Some Sugar on Me. The band were also joined by talented vocalist  Kim Davies which further added to the vibrance and buoyancy of the bands captivating set.  Carl and Dan  also made their second appearance of the night and rocked out on stage with their ‘guitars’ to the majority of Flucksation’s set. The band performed songs  from different  genres such as Come On Eileen & Pour Some Sugar On Me, all in one set this was no meant feat, but Flucksation did this with ease. Crowd feedback was highly positive with numerous people commenting on the musicianship of  the band as a whole and the magnetising vocal skills and stage presence of main vocalist Kris.

I would definately recommend checking out both bands if you hear of them playing at a venue near you in the future.
