Scarlets secured a 29-24 victory over Gloucester Rugby on Saturday afternoon with a number of the region’s international stars taking to the field for the first time this season.
Scarlets captain Ken Owens led from the front and certainly led by example as he, and vice-captain Scott Williams, both crossed the whitewash in a four try outing.
Head Coach Wayne Pivac fielded a strong side as preparation for the opening game of the Guinness PRO12 this Saturday afternoon, 6th September kick-off 2.40pm.
Scarlets hooker Ken Owens said: “It was a good game and nice to get back into it as it was my first full hit out since the summer. It was a first opportunity for us to get to a match situation on Saturday, there’s plenty to work on but it’s definitely looking positive. I thought we got a lot out of it.”
“It was nice to see Hibbs [Richard Hibbard] back fully fit after his shoulder operation and that’s what you want going into the season – you want to test yourself which we had out there as a pack and as a XV.”
Looking ahead to the start of the competitive season Owens went on to say: “We want to maintain the top six like we did last year but we also have to be looking to push back into the top four where we were two years ago. We have to keep improving.”
Don’t miss a second of the action at Parc y Scarlets. Season Tickets are on sale now; from £160 for adults and from £16 for juniors.
