On Friday 12th September the Masons Arms Llanelli was filled with people who had come out to watch the live bands perform .
Personally I was looking forward to seeing all three bands perform and the night started off well with High Stakes who did not fail to disappoint with their memorable ‘head bangingly’ good original tunes which included Midnight Beauty Queen and Fatal Desire. You know once you have heard Fatal Desire you are going to go away singing it!!! Devils horns at the ready!! Hail High Stakes! A really enjoyable set. look forward to seeing you playing again at the Masons on 1st November.

Next up were Gulp , a Llanelli band who reformed for a one off twenty year re union gig on the night. It was really good to have this band reform and choose to play at the Masons Arms . The band sounded really great together with some of the songs sounding a tinge indie in style, whilst others had a rock edge. Gulp performed some super catchy guitar licks between the guitarist and singer/guitarist with a great rhythm section running through all the songs . All in all a very enjoyable performance from Gulp on the night. Even though the band members live in different parts of the country it be really cool to see this band play again in the future.

Headlining the night was 27 Cobalt, a band I always enjoy listening to and seeing perform live !! I’ve said it before, but this band is difficult to categorize to someone who has not heard or seen the band perform live. In essence this is a good thing as only small or square things fit in a box !!! Anyway…… in 27 Cobalt’s music you can hear your pop punk influences, rock, indie and the influence of Welsh language and Welsh sounding bands. The band put on a flawless live set playing original tunes such as Model, Hairdresser, Dread & Falling into Lust etal . Oh and thanks for the mention before you played ‘12 Rounds with Satan.’ The 27’s music was well applauded by the people at the venue and word got to me that someone in the crowd had said the rhythm section of the band was like a freight train! Truly combined with vocalist / guitarist Al’s guitar licks and solos and Jase’s bass playing I don’t think any musician listening could argue or fault the set these guys played. In my view the 12th September was an all round great night of live music at the Masons.
