A variety of venues like to boast the best autumn colour but the National Botanic Garden of Wales might just be shading it.

Amid the many fiery scarlets and gorgeous golds, the stars of the show are the marvellous maples in the Japanese Garden, Liquidambar on the vista, stunning Aralia in the lakeside Slate Beds and colourful dogwoods all over.

Curator Simon Goodenough says: “We might not yet have the size and scale of autumn foliage you might find in a mature arboretum but, here at the Garden, there are splashes of glorious colour round every corner – right across our 568 acres.”

Simon believes the Carmarthenshire attraction really is a Garden for all seasons and this particular time of year has plenty to offer the visitor: “What we also boast is a remarkable array of seed heads on the many grasses growing in the wild garden, offering an unusual palette of subtly beautiful autumn colour, some lovely architectural shapes and sublime textures .”

The National Botanic Garden is open from 10am until 6pm. For more information, go to www.gardenofwales.org.uk email info@gardenofwales.org.uk or call 01558 667149.
