RRW has confirmed that respected Public Relations consultant Antonia Lamont will step down from her media and public relations role at the Scarlets to dedicate her consultancy time more fully to working for the four Welsh Regions as Head of Public Relations for Regional Rugby Wales (RRW).

Following on from Antonia’s significant commitment and success in uniting and promoting Welsh Regional Rugby over the past year, alongside heading up media for the Scarlets, she will now concentrate on a wider strategic role with RRW and the four Regions within a positive new framework for Welsh Rugby.

Antonia’s role will include working closely with colleagues in Regional Rugby, media, sponsors, stakeholders, supporters and competition organisers in the game to ensure a creative and collaborative public relations approach.

The confirmation of Antonia’s role with RRW follows yesterday’s announcement from Regional Rugby Wales on Board appointments and changes to strengthen its corporate and governance structure in order to continue to work on behalf of the four Regions to deliver sustainable and competitive professional rugby in Wales.

With a wider RRW role now agreed, Antonia concludes a 10-year working relationship with the Scarlets. Rugby PR for the Scarlets will now be managed and overseen by Communications Manager Nerys Jones, who steps into a wider PR and media relations role after working closely with Antonia for the past five years at Parc y Scarlets.

Nigel Short, Chairman of the Scarlets and former Chairman of RRW said: “Antonia is one of the unsung heros of Regional Rugby Wales and the Scarlets. When the going gets tough, it’s vital to have individuals on the team that won’t bend under pressure and will fight for what they believe in. Antonia’s contribution through difficult times has been invaluable and we wish her the very best in her future career and role with RRW.”

On the wider role with RRW, Antonia said: “I’m excited and motivated by the opportunities ahead with Regional Rugby Wales. It’s been quite a year with plenty of twists and turns and a journey that’s needed focus, belief and commitment from so many involved in the game.

“There are many positives to come out of the collaboration and spirit of unity in the four Regions and the support we’ve had – we now have a stronger and more productive foundation from which to take things forward.

“It’s time for the next stage in Regional Rugby’s progression, as part of a successful and united game in Wales, which will be taken forward by an executive with a strong commercial focus.

“RRW has an important role to play in Welsh Rugby and plenty to achieve going forward to support and promote the hard work, effort and commitment given by all those representing and working within the four Welsh Regions.”
