Make Your Mark

YOUNG people across Carmarthenshire are making their mark on a national youth consultation.

Carmarthenshire Youth Council is backing the UK Youth Parliament’s consultation which aims to give a million young people aged between 11 and 18 a voice.

The consultation, called Make Your Mark, runs from now until October 10, asks young people to get involved in national issues.

Last year over 470,000 young people took part in a ballot that decided on the issues that the UK Youth Parliament will debate at UKYP House of Commons.

The UK Youth Parliament is the only organisation that is allowed to sit in the House of Commons.

Wales has 24 representatives, one of which will be elected to represent Carmarthenshire at the November event.

The Youth Council hopes to encourage around 4,000 young people from Carmarthenshire to Make their Mark.

Youth Council member Jamie Davies, aged 19, from Glanamman said: “We will be sending ballot papers to all secondary school councils in Carmarthenshire to encourage them to get involved and spread the word about the Mark Your Mark Ballot, as we think it’s so important that young people in Carmarthenshire and Wales have a say on matters important to them not only on a Wales level but on a UK level too.”

Carmarthenshire County Council Youth Participation Officer Sarah Powell said the experience young people got from being involved in National issues was invaluable.

“It provides opportunities for young people to use their voices in creative ways to bring about social change and to make a difference,” she said.
