Police in Llanelli would like to remind motorists to keep their cars safe and secure following an operation by Special Constables on Friday 26th September.

The vulnerable vehicle scheme saw SPS Nash and SPS Wain patrolling the Sandy Road, Maes y Coed and Coed Cae areas of Llanelli and checking for vehicles where a window had been left open or valuables were left clearly on display inside.

There have been thefts from motor vehicles in these areas recently with the majority of the vehicles targeted not being secure or having items on display.

In excess of 70 vehicles were checked with 17 vehicles being either insecure or having items such as mobile phones, tools, bags, personal documents visible. A letter will be sent to the owners of these vehicles advising what preventative measures can be taken to avoid becoming a victim of theft.

Sergeant Darren Moore, Neighbourhood Policing, said

“This scheme is about prevention and education. It can be very distressing to find that your car has been broken into and items stolen. Always remember to keep your vehicles locked and secure and do not leave any valuables on display inside them.”
