A 23-year-old man has been caught and issued with a £75 fine for dropping litter – thanks to the help of a county resident.
Carmarthenshire County Council Environmental Enforcement Officers have issued a £75 fixed penalty notice to the man, who was witnessed throwing food packaging out of his vehicle, in the Tycroes Park area of Ammanford.
A member of the public reported the facts to the council, who subsequently traced the offender from the vehicle details.
When spoken to, the man admitted the offence.
Failure to pay could result in prosecution in court and a maximum fine of up to £2,500.
Executive board member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “I would like to thank the witness for providing our officers with this information, which in turn has led us to be able to issue a fixed penalty notice. This case also highlights how members of the public can play their part in helping to keep the county clean and can be assured that any information given to us will be acted upon.
“I hope this fine will act as a warning to others.”
He added: “Dropping litter is a criminal offence and will not be tolerated. Our enforcement officers carry out patrols across the county and anyone caught dropping litter will be fined.”
