Carmarthen Town Council has followed up the recently installed interpretation materials with an audio trail of the town, puzzles for children and new information booklets on the Coracle history on the Tywi.
The trail will be online and downloadable, making it available worldwide. The Coracle information has had contributions from young and old in Carmarthen, adding to local history, and the Coracle Association has helped with research. The aim is to boost tourism in the town as the development will add to accessible tourist information and historical details and complement the festivals and events that are regularly held in Carmarthen.
The group worked closely with Emyr Price, based at Llandeilo’s Tywi Centre on the project, and Jenny Fox, Event & Project Officer for Carmarthen Town Council explained: “The Carmarthen Merlin’s Town app and the new Carmarthen coracle history booklet have been welcomed as brand new initiatives for the town.
“Local people and visitors to Carmarthen will now benefit hugely from the bilingual interactive tour, and the booklet about coracle history has been very popular indeed. We are delighted with the RDP funding, which ensures that local history can be accessed freely by all.”
The app was funded by a Landscape and Heritage grant towards the project that supports the promotion of the area’s cultural distinctiveness and is funded by the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007 -2013 which is funded by the Welsh Government and European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, Natural Resources Wales, Carmarthenshire County Council and in kind by the National Trust.
