Carmarthenshire County Council planning committee has been broadcast live for the first time today.
The move is part of a webcasting project was funded by a grant from the Welsh Government with the aim of improving ‘Local Democracy and Public Engagement’.
The committee was broadcast live from 10am and was watched live by 91 people. All future Planning Committees will be broadcast live – a full list can be found on the Council’s website under ‘Council&Democracy’ together with the proposed agenda. The webcasts will be bilingual.
Full Council was first broadcast live in May 2013 and since then the council has had over 60,000 views of the live and archived webcasts.
Planning committee chair Cllr Anthony Jones said: “We had a very full planning committee agenda for the first webcast. It will give people an opportunity to further understand the complexities of planning and the constraints the committee is sometimes under.
“I’m pleased that 91 people watched the proceedings live. It is a good opportunity for people to watch the discussion of applications in their area.”
Cllr Pam Palmer, Deputy Leader and Executive Board member with responsibility for communications, said: “I’m sure that the people of Carmarthenshire will be very interested to watch the planning committee webcasts, the planning committee is one of the council committees that people are most interested in.
“This move is in the interests of encouraging people to become more invbolved in council business.”
