A member of Carmarthenshire Youth Council is to represent the county at a national debate in the House of Commons.
Celt Whitburn will take his place in Westminster on Friday, November 15, at the UK Youth Parliament debate.
The QE High pupil will join 300 Members of the UK Youth Parliament, aged between 11 and 18, who will take part in a debate in the House of Commons chamber, chaired by the Speaker of the House Of Commons RT Hon John Bercow MP.
Celt, who has been a member of Carmarthenshire Youth Council for the past three years, will be one of 24 young people representing Wales.
Over the summer, Carmarthenshire Youth Council backed the UK’s largest youth consultation, as the UK Youth Parliament gave a million young people a voice.
CYC returned over 1,000 ballot papers as part of the consultation and the top five issues chosen nationwide will be debated at parliament.
Celt will be a part of the debate and vote to decide which two issues should become the UKYP’s priority campaigns for 2015.
He said: “I’m really happy that I have been elected to represent Carmarthenshire at the UKYP event. I think that it will be a really cool experience as I will be able to work with other young people like me and make sure young people have a voice and that their issues are listened to. “
Sarah Powell Carmarthenshire County Council Participation Officer said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Celt to ensure that Carmarthenshire’s young people have their views and opinions heard on issues important to them on a national level so that they can make a difference especially in the financially challenging climate that we face.”
