Children and adults came out to play for a hands-on community event at Llanelli library.

Supported by Carmarthenshire Communities First team, the Play Learn Create family event had everyone learning and playing together, with workshops from Poppet Puppetry, the Multicultural Network and ‘Create Me Happy’ to musical stories from Cheryl Beer.

The event focused on families acquiring a greater understanding of subjects being taught to children at school, with an emphasis on the foundation phase stage of learning. The workshops aim to help parents and carers support their child’s learning at home. The Family Learning team are currently delivering play learn create workshops to parents throughout the Communities First cluster areas.

Family Learning Worker, Emma Wood said: “We must remember as parents we are our child’s first teacher. Children can develop vital life skills through cost-free, fun and effective activities at home! That’s what today’s event and our community workshops are equipping parents with”.

The Communities’ First team aims to contribute, alongside other programmes, to narrowing the education, skills, economic and health gaps between disadvantaged and affluent areas.
