Immobilise is a free online property registration system used by all UK police forces and second hand dealers to check whether property, that is recovered or offered for sale, they come in contact with is stolen. If so it allows them to return it to the owners and also assists in bringing offenders to justice who are in possession of the property.
The scheme is being rolled out across Carmarthenshire to tackle the issue of victims not being able to provide full details of their property when it is lost or stolen. In addition it is hoped it will assist the police in bringing those responsible for stealing property and handling the property to justice.
Community Safety Sergeant Darren Moore said
“Over the past few years we have adopted a very successful partnership with Carmarthenshire Community Safety and attended community events encouraging members of the public to take measures registering and securing their property.
“Over the next month officers will be running roadshows in various locations in Carmarthen and Llanelli promoting the service. During the roadshows you will be able to speak to an officer who will take your details and register you for the service.”
Dyfed Powys Police will also be working with second hand dealers in promoting this service.
Sergeant Moore added
“Very often during criminal enquiries second hand dealers become a victim in a chain of stolen property when law enforcement agencies lawfully seize property as part of their investigation. A simple check on Immobilise could prevent such a loss and also assist law enforcement agencies in bringing those responsible for criminal activity to justice.”
“I would advise the public to register with this service and promote this practice which will help considerably to reduce the number of victims of crime.”
