Scarlets’ international players have this week returned to regional action and are straight back into European Rugby Champions Cup action.

Hooker Emyr Phillips started both opening European Rugby Champions Cup clashes for the Scarlets, against current champions Toulon and English giants Leicester Tigers, and is looking forward to this weekend’s clash against Ulster Rugby.

Speaking ahead of Saturday night’s clash at Kingspan Stadium Phillips said: “It’s nice to be back and straight back into European action.

“A lot of people had written us off going into the group. We put ourselves in a tidy position going into the next block and we realise the next couple of weeks are huge for us as a team.”

Scarlets are currently in second position in the pool, four behind leaders Toulon, with Ulster in fourth place having lost both opening rounds to Tigers and Toulon.

Phillips went on to say: “We’ll be facing an Ulster team that really raise their game at home. This weekend’s game is huge – any result out there will tee us up nicely going into next weekend’s home game.

“The intensity is right up there the same as international rugby really. We’re all looking forward to getting back on the pitch and keeping the form going.

“Ulster are a team that has a huge set piece mentality. It’ll be huge for our pack this weekend but we’re looking forward to that challenge.

“We always seem to raise our game for European weekends. We know we have to put in an 80-minute performance to get anything from the game.”

Scarlets return to Parc y Scarlets on Sunday 14th December, kick-off 5.15pm, for the second leg of the back-to-back clash against Ulster.
