Pubs, clubs and party planners are being reminded to get their licenses in order ahead of Christmas and New Year festivities to avoid ending up as party poopers.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s licensing section, which issues Temporary Event Notices, wants to encourage those planning a public event or extending their existing hours over the Christmas and New Year period, to submit their applications quickly.

Each application needs to be received 10 working days in advance of the event.

Activities covered by the Temporary Event Notices (TEN) include sales of alcohol for consumption either off or on the premises or both; the supply of alcohol by or on behalf of a club; the provision of regulated entertainment; and the provision of late night refreshments (between 11pm and 5am).

Events covered can last for up to 96 hours and must involve no more than 499 people.

Anyone wishing to apply for a TEN must submit two copies of the application to the council at least 10 working days (excluding the day of the event) before the event is due to take place.

Executive board member for public protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “I would like to encourage all those holding public celebrations over the Christmas period to apply for their temporary events notices without delay. Christmas is approaching and time is running out, as each notice takes at least 10 working days to process.

“We would not like to see party organisers disappointed.”

A TEN costs £21 and should be paid for at the time of application. Cheques should be made payable to Carmarthenshire County Council and sent to the Licensing Section, Carmarthenshire County Council, 3 Spilman Street, Carmarthen, SA31 1LE. A copy of each application must also be sent to: The Divisional Licensing Officer, Police Station, Foundry Road, Ammanford, SA18 2LS
