A LLANELLI man has been ordered to pay more than £160 for dropping a cigarette on the floor in Llanelli town centre.
Michael John Lawson of Heol Gwili, Llanelli, was ordered to pay a fine of £40, costs of £109 and a victim surcharge of £20 in respect of an offence under Section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
The prosecution was brought by Carmarthenshire County Council.
The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence by post.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “Dropping litter is against the law and dropping a cigarette end is no different from throwing away any other sort of litter.
“Cigarette ends make an area look untidy and they are difficult and costly to clean up as they fall into grates and cracks in the pavement.”
