Carmarthenshire County Council has been named the only local authority in Wales amongst Stonewall top 100 employers.

Stonewall announced the Workplace Equality Index results for 2015 listing the best employers for promoting a fair and equitable workplace and community participation for lesbian, gay and bisexual people.

The Stonewall Top 100 Employers includes the highest scoring organisations in the Workplace Equality Index – Stonewall’s annual benchmarking survey for employers.

It is the first time Carmarthenshire County Council has ranked in the Top 100.

The council has been a member for three years and has taken positive steps to promote Stonewall’s Diversity Champions program. It is good practice forum for employers in Wales and the UK on sexual orientation.

Cllr Tegwen Devichand, Executive Board Member for Equality, said: “We are committed to achieving the objectives of our Strategic Equality Plan, and this is one of our priorities. We are grateful for the support provided by Stonewall Cymru and are looking to build on the good work for the future.”

Cllr Mair Stephens, Executive Board Member for Human Resources, added: “It is essential that we create an environment where our staff and our communities are able to give of their best. We have ensured that our policies, procedures and training is inclusive and promotes dignity and respect.”
