The Hollywood Reporter is stating that Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnonin are in talks to star in the Ghostbusters reboot.
The film is being written and directed by Paul Feig, who tweeted that we can expect to see it in cinemas on July 22nd 2016.
The film has had a long development history, Ivan Reitman was set to write and direct with the aim of reuniting the original cast although Bill Murray’s reluctance to starring in a new film was well known. Reitman then pulled out from writing/directing duties after Harold Ramis (Egon) passed away last year.
When it became public knowledge that any future Ghostbuster films were likely to be reboots public opinion rapidly swelled at the idea of an all female cast. And, minus detractions from a few greasy naysayers the momentum of that popular opinion has obviously carried through to the studio.
I think it’s a good decision with a solid cast, all four come from a comedy background and Feig’s comedy credentials are equally impressive. There’s still a lot of information we don’t know, specifically about whether this is going to be a true reboot or if some of the original cast will make appearances.
I’m thinking Benedict Cumberbatch to be cast as Janine.
