Keep Wales Tidy / Tidy Towns Events in February 2015

Keep Wales Tidy are organising events and are looking for volunteers, details below:

  • 31st Jan – Working party: Troserch Woods – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.718056,-4.106011&hl=en&num=1&t=h&z=16 (Car park next to Graig Fach). (9.30am onwards). Troserch Woods Society will be holding a working party focusing on a number of activities including tree cutting, footpath maintenance and litter picking. Some tools and equipment will be available, but if possible please bring gloves, bow saw, loppers, chainsaw** (50:1 two stroke petrol will be available for use), mattock, spade, shovel. Children are welcome, but must be kept under close supervision as powered equipment will be in use.
  • 4th Feb – Hedge laying: Glasallt Fawr, Llangadog – https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zO7n4wa9bGmo.kvOb0Nfc5Pj4 (Centre car park). (10am – 3pm). As part of the Nature Fund Long Forest project, we will be aiming to hedge lay a few hundred metres of hedge until the end of the season. Some tools and equipment will be available but if possible please bring gloves (thorn proof is ideal), bill hook, loppers, bow saw, chainsaw** (50:1 two stroke petrol will be available for use). This event is unsuitable for young children.
  • 9th – Working party: Pontyberem – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.778634,-4.169827&hl=en&num=1&t=h&z=17 (Rear of main car park). (10am – 12pm). Work can include litter picking, flytip clearance, footpath maintenance and / or community garden works. Tools and equipment will be available but if possible please bring gloves.
  • 11th & 13th – Hedge laying: Glasallt Fawr, Llangadog – https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zO7n4wa9bGmo.kvOb0Nfc5Pj4 (Centre car park). (10am – 3pm). Troserch Woods Society will be undertaking the bi-annual risk assessment. Volunteers are needed to help spot the risks while enjoying the peace and tranquillity the woods has to offer.
  • 17th – Cleanup: Garnant – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.807076,-3.905677&num=1&t=h&gl=uk&z=18 (Garnant family centre). (10am-12pm). We will be undertaking a cleanup in the area around the family centre. Tools and equipment will be provided but if possible please bring gloves as these are in short supply.
  • 18th – Cleanup: Llwynhendy – https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zO7n4wa9bGmo.kwCWISMLq6z0 (Llwynhendy family centre). (10am-12pm). We will be undertaking a cleanup in the area around the family centre. Tools and equipment will be provided but if possible please bring gloves as these are in short supply.

We will be undertaking a cleanup in the area around the family centre. Tools and equipment will be provided but if possible please bring gloves as these are in short supply.

We will be undertaking a cleanup in the area around the family centre. Tools and equipment will be provided but if possible please bring gloves as these are in short supply.
  • 23rd – Cleanup: Tumble – https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zO7n4wa9bGmo.kS7S3RPonqcw (Hall car park). (10am-12pm). We will be undertaking a cleanup around Tumble. Tools and equipment will be provided but if possible please bring gloves as these are in short supply.

We will be working with the Sustrans rangers to clean up the section of track between the start point and Felinfoel. Tools and equipment will be provided but if possible please bring gloves as these are in short supply.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MEETING POINTS ARE WHERE THE ARROW IS POINTING, NOT POINT A.

All (unless otherwise stated) are welcome to join the above events. You are welcome to stay for the duration or any time you can give will be greatly received. For all day events (those that continue after 12pm), please bring lunch as we don’t provide this, and the work locations are often not near food outlets / shops.

If you arrive after the designated start time, please ring 07824 504805 or 07887 932066 when you arrive in case we have moved on to a different part of the site, or come and look for us.

End times are just a guide and events / work days may end earlier if the job is finished.

Children under 16 should be accompanied by an adult.

You are covered under Keep Wales Tidy / community group insurance while at these events.

Please dress sensibly to suit the weather conditions on the day. Suitable footwear should also be worn (not sandals / flip flops, formal shoes); safety boots are ideal, but anything fairly rugged will be acceptable.
