Given clear skies, there will be an excellent opportunity to see the a host of stellar bodies including the Moon, the Orion Nebula, Jupiter and its moons at the National Botanic Garden of Wales ‘Star Party’ later this month.
On Friday February 27, the Swansea Astronomical Society host the latest Botanic Garden ‘Stargazing’ event, from 6pm until 9pm – and, even if the skies are cloudy there will be plenty of things to see and do.
All the action takes place in and around the Great Glasshouse and Carmarthen Cameras will be on hand with a display of scopes, binoculars, cameras and other astronomical and photographic bits and pieces. Bring your own ‘scopes as well, especially if you want help and advice.
Inside Lord Norman Foster’s world-famous Great Glasshouse, there will be a two talks: one updating us all on the situation with regard to the Rosetta comet and the Comet Lovejoy which has recently been visible in the skies; and another on the forthcoming Solar Eclipse in March – which will be not far off total in Swansea.
These talks will tell you all you need to know about eclipses as well as giving you the latest information on where the lander craft ‘Philae’ is and what state it is in.
Access to the event is via the Corporate or ’Back’ entrance, and admission is £3 for adults, with under-16s free. Refreshments are available. The talks start at 6.30 and will be repeated later.
