Pembrey Conservation Trust received a financial boost thanks to a grant from the environmental charity, Keep Wales Tidy (KWT).

Volunteers from Pembrey conservation Trust were successful in applying for a grant of £469.00 through KWT’s Tidy Towns Small Grant Scheme 2014.

Grants are awarded to environmental projects all over Wales as part of the Tidy Towns initiative delivered by Keep Wales Tidy and funded by the Welsh Government.

Groups are able to apply for grants of up to £500 as part of the scheme, which supports local communities, groups and individuals with their ongoing green project as well as encouraging them to take responsibility for their own local environment.

Gareth Davies, Chair of the Keep Wales Tidy Grants Panel said:

“We’re delighted to be able to offer small green initiatives across Wales financial support thanks to funding from the Welsh Government. These small projects are vital to the local environment and we’re pleased to be able to support groups in their efforts.”

The Small Grants Scheme awards successful environmental groups with a much needed cash boost for their chosen project, thanks to £20,000 being made available by the Welsh Government. Groups can apply for a helping hand throughout the year and are offered expert knowledge and advice from dedicated KWT Project Officers as part of the support.

Pembrey Conservation Trust works in partnership with Natural Resources Wales to manage 2,600 acres of woodland at Pembrey maintaining important habitat and 25km of access routes.

The grant also helped buy much needed materials to double the size of the wood store Mr Arwyn Howells Chairman of Pembrey Conservation Trust……..said:

“We’re all very pleased to be awarded the funding by KWT’s Small Grant Scheme. The money will help us increase our output of woodland products and benefit our local environment and wildlife.”

In addition to small grants, the project also offers hands-on support from KWT project officers to assist groups’ to carry out their practical projects. Keep Wales Tidy would like to thank the Welsh Government for their support in funding small projects across Wales. By working together, we can all make a positive impact on our local environment.”
