THRILLING aerial acrobatics will again light up the sky above Swansea this summer.
It’s now been confirmed that the Red Arrows will be performing on both days of the Wales National Airshow on the weekend of July 11 and July 12.
The internationally famous Red Arrows, the Royal Air Force’s aerobatic team, has been displaying since 1965. Based at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire, the Red Arrows has flown over 4,660 displays in 56 countries.
Swansea Council is behind the Wales National Airshow. This year will be the fourth time the event has been held in the city.
Over 150,000 visitors are again expected to descend upon a six-mile stretch of the promenade to watch the action unfold.
Other aircraft taking part in this summer’s Airshow will be announced over coming weeks. There’ll also be a range of ground-based activities, displays and entertainment along the promenade.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “The Wales National Airshow has been a key biannual feature of Swansea’s bustling events calendar since it was first held here back in 2009. It’s a magnificent spectacle for both local people and visitors from far afield who travel to Swansea specifically for the event. The sheer volume of visitors who flock to the promenade offers a great opportunity for local traders too, because they’ll inevitably be spending their money in local shops, pubs, restaurants, hotels and other businesses. I’m sure that many businesses will come up with innovative ways of ensuring that they benefit from the huge number of people in the city over the event weekend.
“The Airshow is the signature event of our new Enjoy Swansea Bay events programme and once again demonstrates Swansea’s capability to host major events of international quality. The excitement is now building towards a weekend that’s sure to live long in the memory once again.”
