Eight women from Pembroke have become the first āgraduates’ of an unique project aimed at boosting confidence.
Co-ordinated by Pembrokeshire County Council’s Team Around the Family (TAF), the eight week course was held at the Flying Start Centre in Pennar.
Mpower: better choices, achievable goals – is the first project of its kind in Pembrokeshire… and possibly even Wales.
It aims to increase the self esteem, assertiveness and confidence levels of women through a mix of workshops and outings.
The workshops were delivered in partnership with Plant Dewi, Gwalia-Care and Support, Pembrokeshire College, Pembrokeshire Learning and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.
Councillor Sue Perkins, Cabinet Member for Education, and Families First Project Manager Jeanette Clark recently presented the new graduates with their certificates.
“I was privileged to attend the first and the last sessions of the course and the difference in confidence levels was amazing,” said Jeanette Clark.
TAF worker Damian Golden said he was delighted with the results achieved over such a short period and the participants’ commitment to change.
“We now hope to roll out the project across the County,” he said.
The Team Around the Family programme is funded by the Welsh Government under its Families First initiative, which aims to support families, children and young people.
