Since 1st July 1989 Llanelli has been twinned with French town Agen with a new generation in the Welsh town having an opportunity to learn more about their twin-town in 2015.

Llanelli Foyer, one of 141 projects in the UK currently supporting 12 young people in Llanelli to access housing, learning, personal development, training and employment opportunities, will guide the group of young people on a fact finding journey about twin-town Agen.

The French town of Agen, situated in the Lot-et-Garonne region, is one of the leading French regions for the production of fruits and vegetables. Agen is situated between Toulouse and Bordeaux with a population of approximately 35,000.

In a recent trip the 12 young people linked with Llanelli Foyer had the opportunity to visit Agen to find out more for themselves. Scarlets are delighted to support their 25-week project on Llanelli’s twin-town of Agen as one of the original links for the twinning was rugby.

The trip to Agen included a visit to Stade Armandie, the home of Sporting Union Agen Lot et Garonne, as well as presenting a signed Scarlets jersey to the club which was accepted by former Scarlets Academy member Luke Hamilton, who is now plying his trade with Agen.

Project information;
To develop a 25 week project. Project start spring 2015 and ending in December

Develop a film of their experience that will be produced and edited by the young people helping to gain additional learning skills.
Other activities that are looking to be undertaken; learn to speak French / learn to cook French foods / a time capsule / understand the cultural differences between the two communities.
The project would require a visit or visits to Agen that will be funded by the project.
The project hopes to link with Scarlets and follow up on the rugby connection with Agen.
The project has received letters of support from the Town Council and the Community Partnership. Llanelli Town Council and Lottery Heritage have funded the project along with a number of other funders.
The project will also be supported by Llanelli Library and Cultural Services through their Heritage 6 project alongside Llanelly House.
