The ski slope at Pembrey Country Park has been selected to host a national skiing event.

Some 40 skiers from across Wales and the South West of England will race down the slopes and test themselves against the clock in a national entry level slalom ski race.

Skiers completing this event will gain national ranking as part of their participation, therefore qualifying themselves for higher level events, national championships and even Welsh Ski Team Selection.

Pembrey Country Park is just one of three places in Wales that have a dry ski slope.

The council’s countryside and coast manager, Rory Dickinson said: “We were thrilled to be approached by Snow Sport Wales to play host to an event of this status, and a first of its kind to be held at the slope.”

The event, organised by Snow Sport Wales, starts at 1pm on Saturday and includes three runs down one course with the fastest time to count. There will be no prizes or prize giving ceremonies – it’s all about skiing fast.

Robin Kellen, Chief Executive for Snowsport Wales said “We are delighted to have the opportunity to bring a national level event to the ski slope in Pembrey Country Park, it will give a real boost to local skiers to test themselves against the best and we look forward to more events in the years to come.”
