Swimmers take plunge for cancer charity at Wales National Pool

SCORES of swimmers have been taking the plunge at the Wales National Pool to raise funds for the Marie Curie cancer charity.

Record-breaking numbers of swimmers are getting involved in Swimathon 2015 and the pool is hoping thousands of pounds will be raised for the charity to add to the millions raised across the UK.

Jeremy Cole, General Manager at the Wales National Pool Swansea, said: “The pool is always at the forefront of fund-raising for Swimathon and this year we’re hoping to out-do every other venue in the number of participants joining in to support Marie Curie Cancer Care and other charities.​

“Swimmers based here have been among Swimathon’s most loyal supporters over the years. We’re home to many of Wales’ top swimmers but we’re also a pool that’s very much part of its local community. That’s why we’re delighted to be part of Swimathon.”

The first round of Swimathon 2015 at the Wales National Pool finished last week and the second round is taking place on April 25 and 26.​

Mr Cole said: “It’s a brilliant opportunity for people to improve their fitness and raise money for one of Britain’s best-loved charities at the same time. By the end of next weekend we’re hoping scores of swimmers will have raised thousands of pounds for the cause.”

Marie Curie provide care for people with terminal illnesses across the UK with hours of health care and professionals to support themselves and their families go through those tough times.​
