On 27 June, Emyr Williams from Llangadog, Dyfed is planning to jump out of a plane at 10,000 feet. He’ll fall to the earth at a top speed of 120mph – all to raise vital funds for the MS Trust, the charity that helped his family learn to live with MS after his wife, Gemma, was diagnosed.

“We wanted to give something back so as a family we set ourselves a target to raise £1000 for the MS Trust,” says Emyr.  “My wife Gemma has MS and the MS Trust have been a great source of support for us and our two boys, Iestyn and Morgan, in learning to live life with MS.  As the illness progresses and new treatments become available we are continually facing new challenges and choices.  The MS Trust provide a wealth of useful information and their kids guides for children whose parents have MS were very helpful when explaining to our boys.”

“I have always liked the idea of doing a skydive and when the poster for Jump in June arrived with the [MS Trust’s] Open Door newsletter, I decided to turn the idea into reality.  I am excited to be doing the skydive.  Hopefully we will reach our target or maybe even better beat it.”

Emyr is just one of many people who will be jumping at Honition and across the UK as part of the MS Trust’s Jump in June campaign. For more information about how you can jump in June or at any time of year, visit www.mstrust.org.uk/jumpinjune .

About MS

MS is a lifelong condition affecting the nervous system. More than 100,000 people live with MS in the UK, and 100 more are diagnosed every week. Notes:

  • Multiple sclerosis (MS) is usually diagnosed in young adults. It is a complex and unpredictable life-long condition that attacks a person’s central nervous system, often leading to physical and cognitive disability. We currently know neither cause nor cure.
  • The MS Trust is working to enable people with MS to live their lives to the full by providing evidence-based information; educating health professionals about multiple sclerosis; and funding research to help people living with MS now.
  • Open Door is the MS Trust’s quarterly newsletter which provides information to those with MS and their friends and families. It also round-ups the most relevant MS news and research projects; shares real-life stories of people living with MS; and introduces advice from healthcare professionals that could make a practical difference today.
