There’s a busy programme of events this May at Scolton Manor – Pembrokeshire’s county museum.

From a grand plant sale to a nocturnal nature walk and taster beekeeping sessions, the manor house and gardens are set to be a hive of activity.

The plant sale will take place on Sunday, 10th May from 10am to 4pm. Local nurseries will be selling a diverse assortment of plants from cottage garden varieties to perennials, bedding and aquatic plants, and many more.

There will be planting demos throughout the day and tours of the newly-renovated Victorian walled garden at 11am and 2.30pm.

The acre-sized garden includes a pineapple house (a Victorian heated green house) and is the subject of an ambitious planting programme – from traditional fruit trees to vegetable and herb beds, and a cut flower bed for the manor house.

Admission is free (a £2 daily parking charge applies).

The nocturnal nature walk will take place at dusk on Friday, 15th May, with a fascinating look at the variety of bat and moth species that make Scolton Manor their home.

The event is sold out, but further walks will be organised in the future. For more details, please phone the number below.

The beekeeper taster sessions will take place on 17th and 31st May at the new Pembrokeshire Beekeeping Centre at Scolton Manor. A further session is scheduled for 28th June.

Visitors will be given a guided tour of the centre and, weather permitting, kitted up in bee suits to see the workings of the live hives in the Pine Tree Apiary, and its honey bees.

The sessions will take place between 10am and 12noon. Places are limited and cost £10 each. Booking is essential and please bring your own wellies or boots!
