THIS year’s Admiral Swansea Bay 10k has again been awarded a gold standard grade in recognition of its quality.

The standard, awarded by the British Association of Road Races, is testament to the event’s organisation and commitment to runners.

The race became only the second in the UK to receive the prestigious status back in 2002 when the grading system was first introduced. It’s been allocated gold standard every year since.

The gold grade logo will now be placed on all Admiral Swansea Bay 10k literature so prospective entrants can see that the race has been independently assessed as one of the best of its kind in the UK. Over 4,000 people took part last year.

Held every year since 1981 and directly organised by Swansea Council, the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k will this year also incorporate the Welsh 10K Championships.

Entries for this year’s race on Sunday September 20, which will again be staged along Swansea Bay between St Helen’s and Mumbles, are now open but places traditionally fill up before the closing date at the end of August. The official Admiral Swansea Bay 10k website includes entry forms, a training tips section, a blog and a list of frequently asked questions.

Other races on the day include 1km, 3km and 5km races for male and female juniors.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “The Admiral Swansea Bay 10k continues to be at the forefront of road racing in the UK and has been a success story for many years. It’s the perfect event to enter if you’re a serious runner keen on beating your personal best or someone who’s looking to conquer a challenge, get fit or raise money for charity.

“It’s a feather in our special events team’s cap that the race has again been recognised for its quality. As well as a world class setting along the glorious sweep of Swansea Bay, the recent gold grade accreditation means people taking part can also feel very reassured about the event’s standard of organisation and management.

“Our network of Active Swansea leisure centres in communities across the city gives people affordable access to top quality fitness equipment and expert advice in readiness for the race.”

Ceri Assiratti, People Services Manager at Admiral, said: “This is a great achievement for the event and its organisers – it deserves all the recognition it can get. It is always a great success with our staff and we are proud to be sponsoring and continuing to support local events. We are looking forward to 2015’s race.”

Other fun on the day includes a 100-metre mascot dash.
